DSMAFA - Latest News

Hello folks, I hope you are well. No doubt about the headliners today …let’s hear it for the Neebors across the water. The Fifers of Tayport did themselves and the Dundee Sunday Morning league proud with a magnificent 3-2 win over Livingston side Tower FC to move into the Semi Finals of the Scottish Sunday Amateur Cup. Stevie Lattimer and two goal Steve “Bambi” Smith were the men on target, but man of the match was Dean Rennie who turned in a majestic performance. The Fifers have quietly gone about their business in recent weeks and now have a huge chance of being the first Morning team since the legendary Dolphin side of 1988 to play in a national cup final. They play Falkirk side Hallglen next week and it will be played at either Glenesk Park Dundee or the ground of Camelon Juniors. The Blazers meet on Monday night to confirm the venue… Where do you think it will be played? I could be wrong but!!!!!!

If you are available next Sunday go along and give the lads a bit of support. I don’t know anything about Hallglen but you do not reach a national semi final without having some decent players. Oh and before you say Scottish… what is he talking about? I will repeat what I have said many many times before. The Scottish Cup is the worst competition to enter, but to win it is without doubt and by far the pinnacle of any amateur players career. All the best lads give it your all!!!!

Near neighbours of Tayport are Pilot Garage First Division club Cobbies, and they picked up three points with a 2-1 away win at Doc Ferrys. Docs led 1-0 at half time through a Ryan McBrertie goal but a second half double from Steven Grogan took the spoils back over the bridge. Blackness are in fine form of late, and another good 90 minutes saw a 3-1 win over FC Planet at Fairmuir. Neil “Hit Man” Harvey, Chris “Bee Gee” Small and Wayne “No 10” Lorimer all on the scoreboard.

Birkhill hit AFC Kokomo with a goal rush at Lochee Park. Marc Brownlie (4) Kevin Kelly (2) Jimmy Bell, Steven Brown and Marco Perez the goal heroes. Ferry Innter and Club 67 served up a five goal cracker at Claypotts. Paul Burns, Sean Tucker and Craig Wilkie hitting the target for Innter with Big Lee and Frankie Ireland for the Club. A good win for Innter which delighted manager Jimmy Anderson. Douglas Ath moved into the last eight of the McGuire Trophy with an emphatic 6-0 win over Angus Thistle. The Blue Man U were awesome as goals from Terry ’12 Stone ‘ Malone, Abby Joe B Rafiq, Andy Coogan on his return to the club and a brilliant treble from Terry “Smoothy” Gray, his first a brilliant finish to a great assist from Rikki “Red Card” Ferguson. A word of praise for the Jags young goalie Steven Williamson, who saved his side from a real going over.

Dundee Social got revenge for last weeks defeat from Michelin courtesy of a last gasp 3-2 win, to seal their place in the semi final of the Alex Smith Trophy. The Social only need to avoid a heavy defeat in their last section game with Tayport to top the section and play Harlequins in the Semi. Goals from Greg Lawson, Jamesie McCord and a last minute winner from Greg Burke.

All the best and take care... cheers, Alex.

DSMAFA - Latest News

Hello again and another good week. A full card and two non phone calls. Broadway couldnae be bothered so I don’t know the score in that game and thank you Club 67 for calling in because your opponents who should have phoned in the result didn’t. Fines will be imposed, for terms and conditions see Association handbook!!!! I have moaned about teams not phoning in for so long, the words fed up just don’t do it justice. So no more moans, no more lectures just fines as per constitution and a reminder of the risk that things may go tits up if we do not get results phoned in on time. Nuff Said!!! Now onto the football. It may have escaped your notice but Tayport are now in the Quarter Finals of the Scottish Sunday Cup. Well done lads!! I can’t bring you any news or reports on their games because they do not leave any info when they call in their results. They are at home next Sunday against Livingston Side Tower FC a team Dundee Social know well. The Social were two up and comfortable in a fourth round tie before a late collapse saw Tower win the game 3-2.

Douglas Athletic booked a semi final tie with Club 67 in the Centre Cars League Cup after an impressive 4-1 over Cutty Sark. Goals from Terry “Twelve Stone” Malone, Abby Goe-B Rafiq and a double from new signing Rikki “Red Card” Ferguson. The Blue Man U won’t thank me for saying it, but as the weeks and games go by they are still in with a chance of an amazing domestic clean sweep!! Lochee Central will play Tayport in the other semi final. Billy Carlin’s side were too much for a struggling Sandys team. An amazing seven goal haul from Gordon Donnelly in a terrific Lochee performance. Sandy’s main man Graeme Webster announced he was stepping down after the game. Big Webby will be missed if does go. Always good for a story and a laugh, come on Webby your team needs you… and so does this news page.

Harlequins and Bonargrove played out a 2-2 draw at Monymusk. Chris Taylor and Martin Walker for Quins, with Ian Bruce and Nikita Donnachie on the scoresheet for Bonar.

Pilot Garage First Division action saw Blackness win by the odd goal away to Ferry Innter. A double for Wayne “No 10” Lorimer with Jordan Henderson for the home side. It was a game of two halves over the water in Tayport as Cobbies and Birkhill shared the spoils. A neat finish from the edge of the box saw John Boyle on the mark for Cobbies with Mike Smart completing the scoring. A good performance from Club 67 saw them pick up a point away to FC Planet. Kyle Cormack and George Murphy on target.

Clubs are reminded that midweek games will start on Tuesday 30th March. I know it’s early but we have no option. Kick offs will as in previous years start 5.45pm and as the weeks go in get later.

Cup final dates were announced at last weeks meeting and are as follows.

Friday 7th May - Ross Kirk Trophy Final - Kick Off, 6.30pm.
Friday 14th May - Alex Smith Trophy Final - Kick Off, 6.30pm.
Sunday 23rd May - Centre Cars League Cup Final - Kick Off, 11.00am.
Sunday 30th May - McGuire Trophy Final - Kick Off, 11.00am.

That's all for now… Cheers, Alex.

DSMAFA Latest News

Well Glory be, we are back!!! A full card and some great games, that's it, no stopping us now. Or is it? Will all clubs now take note that from here in to the end of the season NO applications for free weeks will be considered. I will clarify that by saying that any free weeks for the April Fast WILL BE accepted and that will be that!!! Clubs may find that on occasion they do not have a game, but that will be down to how the fixtures unfold between now until the end of May or beyond. Several clubs face serious fixture congestion and this is the only way to get through it.

One of the clubs with fixture problems Dundee Social turned in a brilliant performance against Forfar side Strathmore to win 4-3 and move into the last eight of the Tayside Cup. Three times a very good Strathmore side led and three times the Social pulled it back before winning it with a goal in the last minute of the game. Two goals from Jamesie McCord, Gavin McMillan and a rocket from Chris Gaffney which nearly took the net away won a great game between two fine sides.

Old rivals Harlequins and Douglas Athletic met at Monymusk and it was the Quins who edged it after extra time. Russell 'The Hedge' Headridge put Douglas in front but Harleys stormed back with goals from Neil Thomson and Martin Walker. A second from Headridge levelled before a dramatic winner from Michael Jorgenson. Parve Khan was generous in defeat 'Very disappointed but all the best to Harlequins. They played like they really wanted to win'.

Ferry Innter put Finavon out of the Tayside Cup by the odd goal in three. A goal in the last minute of extra time from Kevin Hogg booked a place in the quarter finals and sealed a brilliant show from Innter. Gaffer Noel Berrie was delighted 'A great team performance but Kevin Hogg was terrific also a special mention for Mikey Young and Keeper Ian Marshall who were excellent'.

Club 67 made their Tayside exit at the hands of Michelin. Goals from Scotty Brown, Kyle Cormack and James Tracey not enough as the Factory side edged it 4-3. Bonargrove hit five past Blackness to seal a place in the McGuire Trophy Semi Finals. Goal hero was Mark 'Sheva' Middleton who hit four, with Chico Lamont making it a nap hand.

Another high scoring game at Downfield saw Angus Thistle go down to Cutty Sark by the odd goal in nine in the Strathmore Glazing Premier Division. Simon Sturrock notched two and it could have been a hat trick as he missed from the spot. Kevin Clancy also bagged a double but the Jags went home empty handed.

In the Pilot Garage First Division Broadway were on the receiving end from Birkhill. A Daz Conway hat trick, Marco Perez (2) Ally Burdge (2) Keith Simpson and an own goal saw Birky collect full points. FC Planet kept their title hopes alive with a 3-1 home win over Doc Ferrys. Goals from Ricky Scott (2) and Steven Houston for the Lochee side, with Darren Elder on target for Docs.

That's it for now... take it easy, cheers, Alex.
