DSMAFA - Latest News

Oh dear, Oh dear Oh Dear. Another day another full card wiped out!!! Yes we now have a wee problem, how the eff do we get the season finished before July? Answers on a postcard. The problem is made worse when yet again teams do not call in as to the status of their match. For example I now have to guess that the Tayport Scottish tie was off and will go ahead next week, if that’s not the case!!!!! As for the other non-callers, what if I only put fixtures in for them when I can be arsed!!! Sound stupid? Yes of course it effin is , but no more stupid than getting fined 10 quid for not making a thirty second phone call!!

It’s all a bit stop, start at the moment and until the weather eases up we are obviously going to struggle. I am struggling to remember a worse winter in my time; I must ask my mate Ronnie the Ref. He goes back many many many years, in fact I think he remembers when they had bit’s of rope for a cross bar. So its onwards we go and be assured the weather will get better, it’s just a case of waiting and hoping!!!

All the best and take care... Alex.

DSMAFA - Latest News

ello folks. Well we managed a complete card today; the first time since late November we have done that... good Times.

Harlequins and Bonargrove played out a 2-2 draw today, a result which means Bonar top section B of the Alex Smith Trophy, with Quins also qualifying for the semi finals in second spot. Both teams finished level on points and the head to head was also level, which means we go to goal difference where Bonar have the edge. Mark ‘Sheva’ Middleton and Nikita Donnachie on target for Bonar with Neil Thomson and Michael Jorgenson for Quins. Both sides will have to wait for their semi final opponents. Douglas Athletic have already qualified but any one of Dundee Social / Tayport or Michelin can still qualify.

In the Ross Kirk Trophy a point at home to Cobbies would have clinched a semi final spot for Birkhill. Cobbies however had not read the script and they notched up a 4-1 win. A win against AFC Kokomo in their last game will see the Fifers reach the last four and edge out Birky. On the scoresheet for Cobbies was ……and I quote straight from the answer machine, Beef (2), Billy Hunter and Chuck!!! Daz Conway notched a Birkhill consolation.

Dundee Social march on to the McGuire Trophy 3rd Round with a 4-2 win over Fintry Athletic. The Social built up a 4-0 lead thanks to Kevin Scott, Gavin McMillan with two long range rockets from Gogs McDonald and Kevin Robertson. It looked like Déjà vu from last week when Fintry pulled back a couple but there was to be no repeat and it’s the dark blues who are still in the cup. Sandys were left to reflect on missed chances as they went down 2-1 to Michelin. Big Webby’s team only had a Brent Mitchell goal to show for their efforts as they went out of the McGuire.

Douglas Athletic were back on Strathmore Glazing Premier Division duty against Cutty Sark. The Blue Man U hit seven past Cutty, a hat trick from Russell ‘The Hedge’ Headridge, two for Terry ‘Twelve Stone’ Malone with Terry ‘Smoothy’ Gray and an Abby Rafiq penalty completing another impressive days work from Parve Khan’s lads. Cutty tried hard enough but they were always up against it when they had their keeper sent off.

Pilot Garage First Division action saw a terrific 2-2 draw between Club 67 and Ferry Innter at Caird Park. Kevin McIntyre and George Murphy for the home side with Craig Wilkie and a Jordan Henderson penalty in reply for Innter. Doc Ferrys who have not had their troubles to seek lately were all smiles as goals from Darren Elder (2) Matty Adams (2) Paul McDade, Terry Melville and Gordon Smith got then back to winning ways against luckless Broadway. Blackness moved up to fourth in the division with a 6-0 home win against AFC Kokomo. On the scoreboard Chris ‘Smudger’ Adams, Chris Small, Ian Young (2) and David Fyffe (2).

And Finally… Club 67 and Cutty Sark have no game this week, quite simply because Tayport are involved in the Scottish and Blackness have asked for a free week. There is not much I can do about the Scottish but can I ask clubs once again to think twice before asking for a free week!!!!

The next round of the Tayside Sunday Cup is on 28th February.

All the best and take care… Alex.

DSMAFA - Latest News

Hello again, well let’s not mince words. A full card… thank Fuck!!!! Another blank day would have been real bad news, but the weather relented and let’s hope the dodgy stuff is behind us.

No doubting top game today. Old rivals Douglas Athletic and Dundee Social met in the Centre Cars League Cup and produced a cracker. The Social steamrollered Douglas in a brilliant first half and deservedly went off at half time 3-0 up. Don’t know what Parve Khan puts into his half time team talks but it produced an amazing comeback from the Blue Man U. A header from Terry ‘12 Stone’ Malone gave Douglas a bit of hope but the Social were defending really well. It took a brilliant strike from Dave ‘Honeybunny’ Honeyman going into the last 10 minutes to give Douglas real momentum and they threw everything at the Social. With just seconds left on the clock Keiron Rooney rose to power home a terrific equaliser and take the game to extra time. Both sides gave everything to win the game but it went into a penalty shoot out where Douglas keeper Graeme Finnan saved two Social penalties and Russell ‘The Hedge’ Headridge hit home the winning spot kick. Parve was as you can imagine delighted. ‘A magnificent game and both sides were a credit to the Morning League. My team were outplayed in the first half but their response to a few choice words at half time was brilliant, everyone played their part but Abby Rafiq was outstanding in the middle of the park’.

Club 67 shocked Harlequins in the Centre Cars League Cup. A brilliant 5-4 win giving the Club a place in the Semi Finals. Two goals from Kyle Cormack with singles from Ryan Rigden, James Tracey and Rory Crichton

Blackness and Birkhill set up a terrific McGuire Cup tie at Fairmuir. On the score sheet for the Blacky were Chris Small (2) and Wayne ‘No 10’ Lorimer as they edged out the village team who had Jim Bell and Kurt Head on target. Cobbies gave up home advantage in their tie with AFC Kokomo but they still produced the goods in a 6-0 win. Goals from John Boyle, Billy Hunter, Steven Grogan, Mike Smart and two own goals putting the Fifers into the last eight.

In the Strathmore Glazing Premier Division, Bonargrove and Cutty Sark produced a 5-5 share at Claypotts. A Mark ‘ Sheva ‘ Middleton double, David Hynd, Mustafa Al-Safar and Nicky Donachie all on the scoresheet for Bonar. Angus Thistle looked to have the points wrapped up when they led Sandys 3-0, thanks to goals from Kevin Clancy, Tam Ballantine and Colin Lancaster. With 30 minutes left on the clock the home side looked comfortable but it just wouldn’t be the Jags if it all ended tickety boo…..and it didn’t. Goals from John Foley (2) and George Sutherland giving Sandys an unlikely point, leaving both the Jags and Big Webby wondering what the hell happened there!!

Finally Ferry Innter hit the goal trail against Doc Ferrys. A first ever hat trick for Steven Burns who his gaffer Noel Berrie described as Dundee’s answer to Cain Dingle, Keiron McGrath also bagged a treble, Kevin Fitchet (2) Paul Burns, Kevin Hogg and Ian Marshall all on the scoreboard

That’s it for now, all the best... Alex.

DSMAFA Latest News

Hello folks. Well it is a short news page this week because after last weeks full card we were back to freezing conditions today. As you will see several clubs did not bother to call in and of course they will be fined. Had it not been for a combination of match referees and away clubs contacting me, I would have been guessing as to if games were on or off. Now I know conditions were bad but…if you are the home team then you MUST call in as to the status of the game. Everybody knows this and still clubs do not call in.

Amazingly we did get a game, Michelin and Club 67 went to extra time in the McGuire Trophy before the factory side edged it 2-1. Don’t know where they played it but, well done to all concerned. In the Scottish Cup Dundee Social went out in Livingston. Playing on a 3G artificial surface the Social were two up and looking very comfortable when an amazing turnaround saw local side Tower come back to win 3-2.

So to next week and again its fingers and everything else crossed that the weather relents and we get back playing. Quite simply it is a must, we are into February next Sunday and more postponements will put us right in the brown stuff, if we are not dipping our toe into it already!!!!

The next monthly meeting is on Monday 8th February in the usual venue. No excuses, your club must be represented.

That's it, all the best… Alex.
