Hello again. Well that’s week 2 done and dusted and almost a full house. The Birkhill v Broadway game did not go ahead. The ref left a message on my answer machine at 9.24 am to say he was injured. I didn’t hear the message until later on in the day but even if I had heard it at 9.24am, what chance have I got to arrange a replacement? Sorry lads, most things I can get done but the impossible is something else.

I saw a bit of the Angus Thistle v Douglas Athletic game this morning which was re-arranged for Lochee Park (A big thank you to the parks dept for letting me know Downfield was off. NOT!!!) Anyway it was a good game which Douglas won 2-1 but the Jags were not happy that a last gasp equaliser was chalked off for a push on one of the Douglas players. Ah well there is always next week!!!

Harlequins edged out Sandys at Monymusk with two goals each from Michael Jorgenson and Chris Taylor. Big Webby must be tearing his hair out, goals from David McDonald (2 ) and Chris Smith not enough and it’s a another blank Sunday. Dundee Social have Mr Vials back at the helm and his team talk must have been good as Michelin scored after 30 seconds but Morning football’s answer to Jim McLean had all the answers. Goals from Gogs McDonald and Steven Gracie clinched the points for the former Champions.

Cutty Sark made it two wins from two with a 5-1 win at Lochee Central. A hat-trick from Richie Blake with Brian Bell and Lee Hunt also on the scoresheet. Two goals from Davie Hynds was as good as it got for Bonargrove as Tayport hit six past them at Claypotts. I can’t see Bonar winning many games soon. (Is that ok Norrie ? ) Sorry folks just a wee joke between me and Norrie Burns who thinks they only win when I tip them not to.

Club 67 scored nine goals against Blackness ..Good ..but conceded six…Bad!! Anyway it’s a first win for the new lads. A Ryan Rigden treble, two each from George Murphy and James Tracey with singles for Kyle Cormack and Brian Pink . (If I have got your name wrong Brian… apologies but that’s how it sounded on the answer machine.)

FC Planet came from behind again this week. AFC Kokomo went two up and then conceded eight, from Steven Houston (2 ) Michael Bannan (2 ) Ian Dolan (2 ) Ryan Fyffe and Mikey Lamb. A wee message for the Koko lads. It would be much appreciated if you could phone your result in. Thanks ever so much!!!

Fintry Athletic picked up full points against a weakened Doc Ferrys side. Jamie Bell (2 ) Danny McGregor (2 Penalties ) and Bobby Buchan (2 ) with the goals.

That’s about it for now, but as you will see the first free weeks of the season will kick in on week 3. You must at all cost try and avoid free weeks. They will come back to bite your arse when the bad weather causes games to be put off in the winter and come April and May when the midweek games start. All I am asking is you think twice before sending in a request for a free week.
All the best and take care.
Alex.

Welcome to the first news page of season 2009 / 2010. Well what a start. A new season but I am afraid more of the same old, same old. One week before the start of the season after all the preparations have been done and Douglas LFP pull out of the Association. If that’s not bad enough, day one sees, Bayview and newcomers Rock AFC decide not to show up for their allocated games and could not be bothered to phone and let me know. I wonder, why the fuck did I bother to carry on this season?

Anyway it’s August and that can only mean one thing, yes the ‘X Factor’ is back, god bless Simon Cowell. Ooops sorry no what I meant was Morning football is back, god bless Charlie Reilly!!! Joking aside this should be a great season with plenty of good teams in with a chance of winning things and plenty who may not but who will enjoy it just the same. It won’t be the same without big Sandy Rae, well for a start the meetings will be over a lot quicker and with a lot less swearing!!! Only joking big man …..what do you mean, fuck off!!!

Champions Cutty Sark started with a win, but Angus Thistle made them work for it. Cutty eventually won it 6-5 after a cracking game played in driving rain. Lee Hunt ( 2 ) Bobby Scott ( 2 ) Wayne Reilly and Paul Johnstone for the Champs with Colin ‘ Bomber ‘ Lancaster hitting two penalties, Mark Hird, Brian Brown and Andy Murray on target for the Jags and no it is not THE Andy Murray. Jags Goalie Steven Williamson and Sweeper Tam Ballantine were terrific for Thistle.

I tipped Sandys to beat Bonargrove at Lochee Park and that can only mean one thing, yep, Bonar walloped them 6-2. Mark ‘ Sheva ‘ Middleton with a double, Mustafa Alsafal, Robbie Smith, Craig Stevens and Davie Hynd hitting the net. Big Webby was sounding even more depressed than usual, 'lost our discipline, lost our shape, lost the game' was his summing up and even goals from David McDonald and Andy Heggie could not cheer him up!!!

Newcomers Club 67 had a great win away to Doc Ferrys. In a game where Docs missed their chances and the Club 67 made no mistake with theirs. FC Planet came from three goals down to edge out Birkhill. Four goals from Steven Houston sealed a fantastic comeback

Michelin put paid to First Division Champions Lochee Central with a 5-3 win at the Factory Ground. Highlight was the Michelin goalie getting on the scoresheet with a clearance from hand sailing straight into the opposition net!!

The fixtures posted for 30th August Week 2 are now subject to change. I don’t see any point allocating fixtures to clubs who won’t play them. I want assurances from these clubs they can and will fulfil their fixtures. If I do not get assurances they will not get any games. I will post the revised fixtures a.s.a.p.

Cheers, Alex.

Well it's almost that time again. Yep, another season, hopefully some great games and good memories ahead and yes I suppose on the inevitable odd occasion we will see Mr Halfwit rearing his ugly head. Who he is, when we will see him, well who knows, maybe not at all this coming season. Let’s hope so!!!

The first fixtures of the season are now complete and as the Pilot First Division has 11 teams there will be for the first few weeks, an odd team. The various cup competitions will start soon enough and before you know it the Christmas decorations will be going up!!

FREE WEEKS…… As usual I ask that free weeks are few and far between, but if you need to request a free date please give the required 14 days notice…or more if possible. The first Monthly meeting of the season will be on Monday 24th August in the University Tower Block at 7.30pm. Your club MUST be represented at this and every other monthly meeting this coming season. At the August meeting the draw for the sectional stages of the Alex Smith and Ross Kirk Trophies will be made. Monthly fees MUST be paid at these meetings failure to do so will result in your club attending the next executive meeting to explain why!!

Not much has changed since last season in terms of website updates / fixtures / venue changes / pitches. I will do my best to keep everything ticking over nicely but I need your help, you must phone results and any match reports you have for the Friday Tele column and website in before 5.00pm on Sunday, yes please note 5.00pm and not 5.30pm as has been the case in the last few seasons.

Anyway I will close now and look forward to seeing some old friends this season, Mr Miserable, Mr Angry, Mr, I did not see It, Mr Couldn’t give a fuck, Mr You’re a pleasure to work with, and finally Mr Get out of my space and do one. Which one are you? Ah sorry no names, I couldn’t possibly say!!!!!!

All the best lads, let’s hope it’s a great season.
Cheers, Alex.

The Dundee Sunday Morning AFA will kick off season 2009/2010 on Sunday 23rd August 2009. The Strathmore Glazing Premier Division will see twelve teams compete for the title, won last season by Cutty Sark who will be defending their crown. Douglas Athletic, Dundee Social, Tayport, Michelin, Sandys AFC, Bonargrove, Douglas L.F.P. with newcomers to Premier Division football Lochee Central, Harlequins, Bayview and Angus Thistle forming a very competitive league.

The Pilot Garage First Division will see six teams make their Morning debut. Established Morning sides Fintry Athletic, FC Planet, Ferry Innter Blackness and Doc Ferry’s will be joined by Cobbies FC, AFC Kokomo, Club 67, Broadway FC, Birkhill and Rock AFC.

As last season the Alex Smith and Ross Kirk Trophies will be played on a sectional basis until the semi finals, with the Association League cup and McGuire Trophy all in and on a knock out basis from round one. The Tayside Sunday Amateur Cup and the Scottish Sunday Cup make up the cup calendar in another busy season.

There is a change on the League Executive Committee, with Stevie Russell stepping down due to work commitments and Harlequins Alan Ramsay taking his place. Stevie was disappointed to go after only one season on the Executive, but Alan Ramsay is a very experienced Morning man and will prove to be a fine addition to the team. Tom Berry (Chairman) Bob Ray (Vice Chairman / Treasurer) Chic Reilly (General Secretary) Alex Butchart (Match Secretary) and Wattie Hepburn (Registration Secretary) make up the Executive for the coming season.

The new S.A.F.A registration scheme is up and running this coming season. There are bound to be a few teething problems but Morning Registration Secretary Wattie Hepburn is confident that in the long term this new scheme will be a success. Clubs are asked to give every assistance to Wattie in order to get things up and running as quickly as possible.

The Association will again have its web site on line for the coming season with everything Sunday Morning posted and updated every week.
